become a vassal. About this in an interview with RIA Novosti said the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“The only way” it is to abandon the policy of hegemonism in world affairs and understand that Russia does not want, cannot and is not going to be anyone's vassal, in any sense of the word, — said the Kremlin spokesman.

According to Peskov, only when there is a “maturing” that it is possible to speak with Russia on the basis of mutual benefit and mutual respect, then it will be time to plan the next contacts.

Earlier, Peskov said that relations between Russia and the United States are at a zero point, and there is no dialogue between the countries. Assessing the results of last year's summit in Geneva, the spokesman said that they are worthless.

Russia's relations with Western countries deteriorated sharply after the start of a special operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin, announcing it, said that Moscow took such a step to protect the population of Donbass from “genocide”, to achieve “denazification and demilitarization” Ukraine.

After the start of the special operation, Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Russia, introduced martial law and announced general mobilization. Western countries, in particular the United States, have imposed sanctions against certain Russian politicians and officials, as well as members of their families. The restrictions affected banks, industry, transport and other sectors of the economy. In addition, the United States and its allies began to massively expel employees of Russian diplomatic missions.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier that Moscow would “seriously think” before resuming relations with Western countries, even if they offered it do.

At the same time, US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan noted that Washington and Moscow cannot completely break off diplomatic relations, as they must maintain bilateral contacts. “We will also never part at all. We cannot take and break off diplomatic relations and stop talking to each other,— he said.
